A law that did NOT allow Chinese immigrants into the United States. Chinese people could not get citizenship until 1943.
What is the Chinese Exclusion Act?
A high percentage of voters in a state needed to promise loyalty to the United States, people who volunteered to fight for the Confederacy (South) were not allowed to vote.

US soldiers attacked a village of about 750 Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians in southeastern Colorado territory. They killed women, children, and elderly people.

Laws made in the 1890's that limited the freedom of African Americans
What are Black Codes?
White southerners who agreed with Reconstruction. They did not want secession.
What are Scalawags?
These made sure that African Americans and Whites were separate.
What are Jim Crow Laws?
A person who works on a farmer's land and doesn't get paid but they do get some of the crops.
What is a Sharecropper?
An idea that a country wants to have power and control over many other places in the world.
