Question #4

After considering the advantages and disadvantages, explain which option you think is most suitable for the entire band. You must restrict your answer to the chosen option and not refer to the other options. [6]

Option A is the most suitable option because it is a lake holiday where:

  1. Taren and Kalif can take advantage of the outdoors and hike around the lake.

  2. Bernie can take a short walk to the farmer's market to buy vegan options.

  3. If the group decides to get the "Full Family" accommodation option,

  4. Bernie can look for the group since it has a kitchen.

  5. Further, the "Full Family" option allows for Taren to have his own space since there is a bedroom and separate living area with a pull-out bed.

  6. Finally, option A has a nearby community where the group can eat at a cafe sometimes since Kalif likes to eat out.

OR

Option D is the most suitable option because it is a beach holiday where:

  1. Bernie can see the ocean for the first time

  2. The villa has a kitchen so Bernie could cook and

  3. The resort has food made in-house locally which could accommodate Bernie's local, vegan diet,

  4. Taren’s vegetarian diet and

  5. Kalif’s love of food but not to cook

  6. The resort has plenty of exercise options for Taren and Kalef such as snorkelling and surf lessons and

  7. Bernie could hang out at the beach since he can’t walk much because of his knee

Question #1

Give three reasons why Kalif would choose option C and give one point the group might raise to argue against his choice. [4]

Three reasons Kalif would choose option C are because:

  1. he wouldn't have to be in the sun since its more of a city vibe,

  2. would have a lot of nightlife options including music for a young crowd,

  3. and he could enjoy different food at craft pubs and bistros since he loves food but doesn't cook.

  4. The group might argue against option C because Horn Valley's historic West End is under construction, which would impact when and where they could eat as Berne is vegan and Taren prefers vegetarian food which might limit their options.

You must restrict your answer to the chosen option and not refer to the other options. [6]

Option C is the least suitable for the group because:

  1. Even though Kalif enjoys nights out,

  2. Taren does not drink or stay out late

  3. The room options would be not be suitable for Taren since they only offer standard and studio rooms

  4. Which would not give Taren privacy

  5. Downtown Horn Valley has food options but

  6. May not have options for Bernie since he has a strict vegan diet that mostly requires cooking at home

  7. Finally, Kalif would not have many places to exercise since its in the city and

  8. Bernie would not have a serene environment to mediate in the morning because of the city

Question #3

Using both evidence from the text and your own opinion, give two advantages and two disadvantages of travelling with a group. [6]

Two advantages for traveling with a group are saving money by sharing costs and getting to experience different things.

  1. Since the band has budgeted $5,000 for flights and accommodations,

  2. they are able to split this figure amongst 3 people by sharing rooms.

  3. Bernie has never seen the ocean so being able to go to a place like option C would would him experience something different,

  4. perhaps based on Taren's preference for a calm environment like the beach.

  5. On the other hand, a disadvantage could be dealing with people's preferences may make things difficult as Taren doesn't want to share a room, which would make costs higher.

  6. Additionally, you may not be able to do what you want all the time, which could be problematic if the group would want to do something like drive through mountains as Berne gets car sick.
