temp regulation

100

what is the main function of the respiratory system?

Gas exchange

100

What does the integumentary system consist of?

what is the function of the skin ?

skin, hair, nail,cutaneous glands

provide a barrier an protect from harm, infection, and keep organs on the inside, heat regulation, sensation, produce vitamin d ....

100

what is the main function of the nervous system?

mainly helps with sensation and motor responses but also to control, regulate and communicate with the other systems

100

what is the function of the digestive and cardiovascular system?

digestive- responsible for the intake and dgestion of foods which allows our bodies to have nutrients and maintain its function and breaks down food

cardiovascular-helps the heart pump blood throughout the body and circulates blood and caries oxygen to cells and gets rid of any waste in our blood stream

200

What are the four functions of the Skeletal System?

Protection/support

movement

makes blood cells

stores minerals and regulates endocrine

200

Average at rest respiratory rate for an adult?

12-16 per minute

200

What is the function of the endocrine system and what major glands does it control?

helps control hormones, mood, growth, development, metabolism, reproduction and organs

Pituitary gland, adrenal, pineal, pancreas and thyroid glands

200

what are the major subdivisions of the nervous system and briefly explain them

Divided into two major groups the central and peripheral nervous system. The CNS includes brain and spinal cord while PNS controls the nerves linked to the spine and brain and the pns is divided into two more groups the autonomic nervous system and  the somatic nervous system

200

what is the healthy range of heart beats per minute ?

resting 60-100

300
what are some types of joints called

Synovial joint

cartilaginous

hinge

ball and socket

fibrous

300

Name the different types of lung volumes

adrenal- adrenaine, aldosterone, corticosteroid

thyroid gland - thyroid hormone

300

what is known as the little brain and what does it do?

the cerebellum is involved with movement and balance and role cognition in language and attention

300

how many chambers does the heart have?

four chambers, left and right ventricles and the left and right atrias

400

Name one possible disease for each system

Muscular:

muscular atrophy/distrophy ,tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, parkinsons disease

skeletal:

400

name at least 3 diseases related to the nervous system

cerebral palsy

alzheimers disease

multiple sclerosis

parkinsons

epilepsy

shingles

400

if something gets chewed and swallowed what path does it take?

Food gets chewed up in the mouth mixing saliva trying to breakdown the food then it travels through the esophagus, to the stomach which further breaks down more food to the small and large intestine which help absorb nutrients from the food that the body needs to absorb.

500

how does a muscle contract?

acetyhline is released from the end of a motor neuron then travels across the synaptic ga to try and stimulate skeletal fibers which then lead to  calcium ions to diffuse into skeletal fibers and bind with tropoin then actin and myosin bind tgther which makes the muscle get shorter and cholinesterase becomes acetycholine  and calcium ions diffuse out the muscle and breaks the actin and myosin links causing the muscle to relax.

500

What happens when you take a breath?

When you inhale the air goes through you nose or mouth and travels to your trachea through the bronchi and into the bronchioles into the alveoli, carbon dioxide goes from the capillaries into the alveoli which gets exhaled out of your body and does it all over again

500

name at least 3 diseases in each system in this category

integumentary- basal cell carcinoma, squamos cell carcinoma , melanoma, eczema

endocrine- addisons disease, diabetes, graves disease, hyperglycemia, hasimotos disease, hypo/hyper thyroidism, lupus, thyroid cancer
