How did the invention of irrigation help to make ancient Egypt a more complex society? 

Once Egyptians built the canals and dams to irrigate their farms, they were able to grow more food than they needed. This surplus allowed people to do different kinds of work. Because people did not need to only farm, this allowed the Egyptians to invent more things and create a more complex culture.
