Describe the Olympics of Ancient Greece. 

The Olympics started in Olympia. People from all different city states came to watch (only men were allowed to watch and participate). Wars were put on pause for the olympics. Only foot races were in it like, running, horses, throwing discs.

They decided to honor the goddess Athena, and named their city after her.

Why did Ancient Greece have city states? 

Because of the mountain and landforms dividing everyone. It was easier for them to create their own laws and ways of living. Each city sates had their own leaders and laws.

With his father he conquered Greece. After his father died, Alexander became king and then conquered Persia and some of Northern India.

He taught Alexander to observe and watch before acting. It helped him tame the horse Phesafulus.

Where did the word Marathon come from?

It came from the Battle of Thermopylae at Marathon (Athens versus the Persians), where Pheidippides ran from Athens to Sparta to ask for help. After Greece won the battle, Pheidippides ran from Marathon to Athens to tell them they won. He ran 26.2 miles and died when he reached to Athens. To honor his memory and strength, they named every long race a Marathon!
