Babies were bathed in wine, tested for strength, & left to die on a mountain.

Children left for military training at 7, encouraged to steal, & were told to either "Return with your shield or on it."

Mothers were taught loyalty to Sparta was more important than their children. Mothers who died in child birth were honored as heroes.
