Men: They were given complete freedom. They would work and socialize in the agora during the day. They were allowed to participate in the government and own land. Women: They had no freedom. They were expected to stay in the house all day and complete household duties. They were not allowed to participate in the government or own land. Slaves: They had no freedom. Male slaves would work on farms, in mines, in shops, construction sites while female slaves would be expected to work in the home. Slaves could sometimes earn money and in rare instances they could buy their freedom. Slaves were not allowed to participate in government or own land.
