What slogan does Snowball come up with contained the essential principles of Animalism?

Four legs good, two legs bad

200

Which two (2) animals seem to disagree about everything? AND why ?

Snowball and Napoleon AND they are fighting for the main leadership position

200

Why is there a battle?

Mr. Jones and his men try to take back the farm

200

What happened to the disappearing milk ? Why is this significant ?

The pigs kept it for themselves, which shows that, already, they are not treating all animals equally.

200

What is the role of the pigs during the harvest?

To supervise and oversee

300

How did Boxer react to almost killing a human? AND what does this tell us about his nature?

He was very upset, which shows his kind and gentle nature.

Where was Napoleon during the battle ?

Napoleon was nowhere to be seen

Explain one (1) change Napoleon puts in place after Snowball is chassed off the farm

There will be no more Sunday Meetings. All decisions about the farm will be made by a committee of pigs presided over by Napoleon. The animals will now meet on Sundays to salute the flag, sing “Beasts of England,” and receive their orders for the week.

300

What time of year did the first battle take place? (month)

October

300

List one way in which the animals have now broken the seven commandments

1. They deal with humans

2. The moved into the house

3. They have killed other animals

4. They are no longer equal

400

We finally find out what happened to the puppies. What was it and who/what do they represent?

Napoleon took them away to brainwash and train them to be his personal ‘bullies’. This is like what Hitler did with the Hitler youth – brainwash the young. They represent the KGB, Stalin’s secret police.

400

What does this (Napoleon not fighting during the battle) tell us about the sort of leader he is?

This shows that he is not a very 'hands-on' leader, not willing to get his hands dirty.

400

Napoleon puts in place several changes. Why don’t the animals protest these changes and stand up to Napoleon?

Two reasons: Firstly, fear – they have just seen what happened to Snowball, and the growling dogs certainly deter them from protesting. Secondly, they are not smart enough to think up logical arguments to protest against Napoleon.

400

Who do the animals believe is responsible for the windmill falling down?

Snowball

400

Why did the animals confess to being traitors

They were brainwashed/forced by Napoleon

lack of intelligence to see who Napoleon really is

500

Who does Mollie represent and why does she run away from the farm?

Mollie represents the bourgeois and those who weren’t interested in the ‘greater good’ of the revolution. They just cared about themselves and fled the country - like Mollie!

500

Why do the dogs accompany Squealer when he goes to the other animals?

To ensure that the animals are ‘convinced’ – this shows us that there has been a shift in the way animal farm is ruled – it is now ruled by fear and with violence.

500

Why does Snowball want to build a windmill?

Snowball wants the animals to build a windmill so they will have electrical power to make life easier for all of them-light and heat in the stalls and labor-saving devices such as electrical milking machines. The animals would only have to work three days a week when it was finished.

500

Why do you think Napoleon bans the singing of 'Beasts of England'?

It is a revolutionary song and he doesn't wish them to revolt
