Habitat destruction is when habitats are destroyed by extreme weather or the actions of people. People can help prevent habitat destruction by not littering and polluting the land, air, and water; not chopping down trees; not lighting fires in the woods that can turn into forest fires.

You could find a canopy of trees in the rainforest. A canopy is formed when the trees grow tall and close together, blocking out most of the sunlight on the forest floor.

Example: the oxpecker (gets food and shelters by eating ticks and bugs and riding on a giraffe) and the giraffe (is warned when predators are approaching, gets ticks and bugs removed)

A tree or cactus can provide animals with the food, water, and shelter they need to survive, which makes them a habitat.
Explain what the word temperate means. What kind of habitat has a temperate climate?
Temperate means not extremely hot or extremely cold. A deciduous forest has a temperate climate because it has four seasons but is not as cold as the arctic or as hot as the desert.

A climate is the type of weather a habitat has over a long period of time. The climate of a desert is very hot and dry.
What is a predator and what is prey? Give an example.
A predator is an animal that hunts other animals. The animals that are hunted are called prey.

What adaptations does the acacia tree have that help it survive in the savanna?
The acacia tree has long roots that can absorb water when it does not rain for a long time in the savanna. It also has thorns that protect it from animals eating too much of it.
How is a temperate deciduous forest different from a tropical rainforest.
Temperate deciduous forests have four seasons, and rainforests do not. Rainforests are located closer to the equator and receive more rain and sunlight, so they are very humid and the plants are green all year long. The trees of temperate deciduous forests lose their leaves in the fall.
