When would you follow this Birchtree policy?

  1. The student should be temporarily removed from the classroom so that Birchtree’s nurse or a qualified individual can inspect the student’s clothing and other belongings, including hat, shoes, jacket, backpack, and school supplies. 

  2. Without drawing significant attention to the student, check the areas where the student sits or where affected belongings may have been placed for extended periods. 

  3.  the student should change into temporary clothing and place all of their clothes (including shoes) in the dryer set on high for 30 minutes. 

  4. After treatment, the student may change back into their clothes.

  5. Remaining belongings should be placed in a large zip lock plastic bag and a clear plastic container.

  6. If a dryer is not available to treat the clothes, they should also be placed in a plastic bag and a clear container.

  7. The student should be changed upon entering the school daily, and belongings either put in a dryer for 30 minutes on high or bagged/ put in clear plastic containers until the problem is resolved.
