Nursing considerations
1. Retinol Damage
-eye exams ever 6 months and at baseline
-report visual changes!!
2. baseline EKG, periodic monitoring
3. baseline G6PD deficiency screening
Nursing consideratons
-instruct patients to report any severe GI symptoms
-should report candida/yeast infections
-metallic taste is harmless
-urine discoloration is harmless
-monitor for CN symptoms and report of any neuropathy or seizures
-NO ALCOHOL!! --> patients will vomit
Administration: take 1 hours before or 2 hours after meals (if GI symptoms occur, take with food)

1. Retinol Damage
-can be irreversible, mostly associated with the dose
-brand name is Plaquenil, think of plaque deposits building on the eyes
-happens over long-term treatment (years upon years, super rare)
2. QT prolongation
-rare: RA and lupus patients on these for years without commonly seeing any heart issues
3. profound hypoglycemia
4. not to be used in G6PD Deficiency
-risk for hemolytic anemia
AEs
1. will cause nausea and vomiting when consumed with alcohol
2. GI symptoms (most antibiotics do this)
-N/V/D
-metallic taste (10%)
3. CNS
-seizures, ataxia, vertigo, headache (18%)
4. rare, but serious: seizures, peripheral neuropathy
5. urine discoloration (darkens urine)
6. Also an antibiotic, therefore can cause super/supra-infections
-typically refers to Candida albicans (yeast infection, oral/vaginally)
