Smoking is prohibited in all Emerson College owned or leased buildings. Even if a person holds a medical marijuana card, they cannot smoke anywhere on campus. This includes the parking garages.

What happens if a resident loses their keys?

What happens if a resident loses their key? 

If they need to follow a lock out procedure, let them into their room and make sure they have definitely lost their keys. You can advise them to email ELA_ResLife@emerson.edu, but you also should email reslife to make sure ARD Skarlett is aware of the issue in case the student does not send the necessary email.

What are the extended guest procedures?

All suitemates must agree and fill out a Google Form. The host will receive an email when and if their extended guest stay has been approved. Guest still must be signed in and out of the building by the host and abide to all ELA policies.

When would you confiscate alcohol
and what are the steps?

  • You would confiscate alcohol when ANY students in the room are under 21 OR alcohol exceeds Emerson’s allowed amounts OR students are being uncooperative/showing signs of intoxication/alcohol poisoning. 

  • The steps are: mark the bottle to indicate how full it, take a picture of the marked bottle, accompany residents to pour out the alcohol, ask residents to throw away the empty bottles.

False: The Emerson College alcohol policy is per resident, not off-campus student or guest. They cannot bring in their own alcohol.

What do you do when you see
 an intoxicated resident?

Call the ARD Duty Phone, it is not your job to evaluate the level of intoxication. Make sure student is physically safe, sitting down if unsteady, for example. Ask questions to the student / student’s friends such as “How many drinks did you have tonight?” “When did you have your last drink?” Relay information to ARD upon arrival.

What are the fire evacuation procedures?

Grab your highlighter vest, maglight, roster, and clipboard. Take the stairs all the way down to ground level, and knock on as many doors as you can as you exit the building. Stand in an appropriate spot on the exit route (top of staircase, both sides of the crosswalk, at meeting point) and either help guide foot traffic or take a tally of who’s at the meeting point.
