A rhythmical pause caused by punctuation in the middle of a line of poetry

The substitution of a milder term for a harsher one

The point in a narrative at which the protagonist's fate is sealed

When someone absent or dead or something non-human is addressed as if it were alive and able to respond

A minor character that is set up as a contrast to the main character

The fixed pattern of rhymes that continues throughout all or most of the poem

A regional variety of language distinguished by grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary

Abusive, insulting language specifically aimed at someone

Starting a narrative in the very middle of its action rather than at the very beginning of the plot events

The portion of the plot that reveals the resolutions of conflicts and solutions of any remaining mysteries
