Describe one way the status of women under Islam differed from the status of women in China during the period 1200-1450.
In Islam, women had more independence and higher social status than women of China in the period 1200-1450. For example, Muslim women could own land, start divorces, and run errands all on their own, whereas women in China generally had to do the busy work around the house and were not as independent. During this time, owning land put you high in social status and since women under Islam could, this put them at a higher status. Women in China at this time were not as independent as they needed a husband to do well in life, which put the Chinese women in this time lower on social status.
Describe one example of commercial practices that affected Silk Roads trade during the period 1200-1450.
The use of flying cash and paper money on the Silk Road allowed for safer travel and more insured travel. For example, a merchant could deposit money in a banking house, take a bill of exchange, and then go to another banking house at another area and withdraw the money he deposited. This way of banking allowed the traveler to not be holding lots of money, creating safer travel as less bandits will try to rob the traveler. The paper money also allowed travelers to just pay for goods instead of trade them, so deals and bargaining wouldn't have to be made all the time.
Explain one reason the Gunpowder Empires rose during the period 1450-1750.
One reason the Gunpowder Empires rose at this time is because of their gunpowder technology and accessibility to it. For example, some of the gunpowder technology used included canons and mortars. With this tech, these empires could defend themselves, as well as invade and take over other regions and empires. Their ability to defend provided safety and security for the empire, and their ability to invade and take over other regions provided some outside resources and goods. Gunpowder Empires rose because of these abilities.
Explain one way in which European practices affected the environment in the Americas in the period 1450-1750.
The Europeans transporting animals and plants from the old world to the new world greatly changed the ecosystems in the new world as some new animals and plants became dominant. For example, the cattle sheep, and goats overgrazed which caused problems like erosion and with this, the native animals didn't have as much to eat. Also to make way for new crops, deforestation occurred, and as a result of growing crops on the same land, depletion of nutrients occurred. All of these consequences combined together changed and hurt the natural environment by changing ecosystems and making way for new plants and animals, while wiping out the native ones.
Explain one example of why nationalism thrived in the period 1750-1900.
The ideas of the enlightenment like the ones of John Locke(freedom, equality, etc.) made people of the time more prideful in their nation than their king around the period 1750-1900. For example the American Revolution happened because of the ideas of enlightenment, which cause the US to leave Britain's rule. In the American Revolution, the US people all trying to break away from British rule made them feel unified, which caused nationalism in the people.
