The largest part of the brain where conscious thoughts are controlled
What is the cerebrum?
The lobe located in the front part of the cerebrum, where speech and language are learned and used, voluntary movements initiated, problems solved
What is the frontal lobe?
The name for the left side of the brain
What is the left hemisphere?
The two part (central and peripheral) system that controls a huge number of activities in the body
What is the nervous system?
Bundles of neruon axons running together that gather info from inside and outside the body and send it to the brain
What are nerves?
The "little brain" that controls complex muscle movements and helps maintain balance
What is the cerebellum?
The lobe located in the back part of the cerebrum. It processes visual information.
What is the occipital lobe?
The name given for the right side of the brain?

What is the central nervous system?
Important cells in the nervous system that receive, store, and process info, as well as send messages throughout the body
What are neurons?
Connects the brain to the spinal cord and controls things like breathing and heartbeat
What is the brain stem?
The lobe of the cerebrum that is located near the temple
What is the temporal lobe?
The inner surface of the brain. Myelin gives it its color.
What is white matter?
This part of the nervous system contains nerves that spread out from the central nervous system to the outer edges of the body
What is the peripheral nervous system?
A type of neuron that is found between and connects other neurons
What is an interneuron?
The folded outer part of the cerebrum
What is the cerebral cortex?
The lobe of the brain that processes all sorts of sensory information.
What is the parietal lobe?
The outer surface of the brain. Neuron cell bodies give it its color.
What is gray matter?
The part of the peripheral nervous system that is responsible for voluntary movements
What is the somatic nervous system?
The part of a neuron that transmits info from the nucleus to different parts of the body
What is an axon?
The part of the peripheral nervous system that works automatically, involuntarily, controlling smooth muscles so the organs function without thinking about it
What is the autonomic nervous system?
One of the arms of a neuron that reaches out in many directions and gathers info
