When Hancock closes for thunder, can the other pools stay open?
No, all pools must close if one hears thunder/sees lightning
When should pool chemicals be checked?
At the start of every shift, and pool breaks
What is expected of you at the start of each shift?
Clocked in, rescue ready, on the pool deck
In a binder in the cabinet on the pool deck
What are three diving board rules?
Answers may include:
1. Swimmers must pass swim test
2. Parents may not wait in the water for their children
3. One person at a time
4. One bounce
5. No diving off the side
6. No back flips, back dives, inwards, or gainers
7. Exit the diving area after surfacing
8. No swimming in the diving area9. No goggles allowed
How long after we last heard thunder do we need to wait before opening?
30 minutes
What should you do if the chlorine or pH is out of the acceptable levels range?
Recheck at least 2 more times at different places around the pool. If the readings are still unacceptable, the LS will contact the pool contractor
How far in advance (at least) should you send request off dates?
2 weeks
You're guarding during Lunch Lap and a swimmer is seen unresponsive at the bottom of the deep end. What is your first step?
Activate the EAP, 2 long blasts
You just rotated to lap lanes and see a marine swimming in cammies and boots. What do you do?
Get the attention of the patron, kindly let them know they can swim in cammies, but not boots. Bonus: kindly remind the guard you rotated of the rule
Who should be notified when the pool is closed for weather?
The other pools; Jen if the weather affects events (LTS, party, classes)
You see a patron changing their baby’s diaper on the pool deck. What do you do?
Kindly let the patron know diaper changing is prohibited on the pool deck and that there are changing stations in the locker rooms.
What should you do during pool break?
Use the restroom, rehydrate, cool off, clean eating area, sweep, clean drains, skim, swim 500, pick up trash, etc.

Who can dive in the lap lanes?
Only swimmers with their swim teams/swim club approved by the Aquatics Office
While closed for thunder you go to the restroom and notice a patron is using the shower. What do you do?
Let the patron know it is strongly recommended to not use the showers at this time, no further action is needed.
The What is an AFR and what actions need to be taken?
Accidental Fecal Release
1. Have all patrons exit the water and pool deck
2. Close the pool
3. Remove contamination & properly dispose of it
4. Determine if it is solid or diarrheal
5. Check pH and Cl
6. Notify aquatics
7. Call pool contractor
8. Notify EBLS
9. Log the time, contamination, chemicals, and persons contacted in the logbook
10. Properly decontaminate net with bleach
You’re scheduled next Friday at 1245, but realized you can’t make your shift anymore. What’s the procedure for this?
Look at the schedule, find out who is available and ask if someone can take the shift. Once you find someone, ask management for approval, then let the supervisor know.

A 9 year old is swimming in the shallow end and the water is up to their waist. Their parent is watching from a chair near the lifeguard stand. Does the lifeguard need to do anything? If yes, what?
Yes, the lifeguard should let the parent know the child cannot be in the pool by himself without a swim band. Inform the parent about our swim test or let the parent know the child can swim if the parent is in the water with him, within touch supervision.
What is Thunderstorm Condition 1
Lightning and thunder are imminent- within 30 miles of Cherry Point and expected to pass with 5 miles of the center of the airfield within one hour
