Light vs. Darkness
Symbolizes life and rebirth. The opposite symbolizes death and emptiness
Water vs. Desert
•Symbolized uncertainty, confusion, hidden truths, and the subconscious.
•It may be physical fog or emotional confusion.
The Fog
Places of safety contrast sharply against the dangerous wilderness. Heroes are often sheltered for a time to regain health and resources
Haven vs. Wilderness
•good, beautiful maiden
•She may make an ideal marriage partner
White Goddess
A place of death or the dark side. Entering an underworld is a form of facing a fear of death
The underworld
The first part represents light, life, knowledge, and rebirth while the other represents ignorance, darkness, sterility, and death.
fire vs. ice
The weapon the hero needs in order to complete his quest
Magic Weapon
Someone who is wise and understanding as opposed to those who are in charge.

Star Crossed Lovers
Gateway to a new world which the hero must enter to change and grow
The threshold
The gods intervene on the side of the hero or sometimes against him
Supernatural Intervention
•A strong place of safety which holds treasure or princess, may be enchanted or bewitched
The Castle
A place/time where someone must make a decision or a realization
The Crossroads
•A puzzling dilemma or great uncertainty, search for the dangerous monster inside of oneself, or a journey into the heart of darkness
The Maze
The first one is for the Gods and the mountaintops. Inaccessible to normal people. The opposite is someone's worst nightmares.
Heaven vs. hell
a man or woman married to someone they begin cheating on, either emotionally or physically.
Unfaithful Spouse
