What made Jamestown an unfit place for erecting a great city?

Jamestown was an unfit place for erecting a great city because the land was low and swampy, so you couldn’t really build houses on top of mud, the air was full of disease-carrying mosquitoes,  so the people would get sick as quick in a blink of an eye; they still hadn’t made vaccines back then, the water was not very healthy to drink, so it made people sick. Almost as soon as the settlers arrived in Jamestown, many settlers began to die.
