Explain the paradox of a modern understanding of freedom. In other words, why does the modern understanding of freedom often make us less free in the end?

A modern understanding of freedom is about having no limitations and unlimited options. If our freedom is not refined by virtue and discipline, we end up being slaves to our passions and desires.

For example, if someone has unlimited options of things to watch on Netflix, they can often be stuck in analysis paralysis or FOMO. They may spend all their time thinking about what to watch rather than actually watching something.

Under the classical understanding of freedom, we have to limit our freedom in order to be truly free. Explain what this means and give an example.

If Logan wants to be a really good golf player, he has to say no to spending time on other things so that he can say yes to practicing. He has to limit his freedom to do other things so that he can say yes to golf, which will make him more free to be excellent at golf.

Explain how the virtues lead us to authentic freedom.

All virtues require discipline and saying no to yourself. They are muscles to be trained. When we practice virtue well, we end up free to live a good and happy life, rather than being enslaved to vice.
