The first Sacrament of Initiation. We are born into a new life in Jesus and we need this to go to Heaven. 

Baptism

The Sacrament in which we receive the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ under the appearances of bread and wine. This is the source and summit of our Christian life. 

Eucharist

The third Person of the Holy Trinity. He proceeds from the Father and the Son and is worshipped and glorified. He fills us with his gifts and guides to holiness in the Church.

Holy Spirit

The first sin of Adam and Eve that brought pain, suffering, and death into the world. Because we are descendants of Adam and Eve, with are born with this. We need to be baptized to remove this.

A holy person who is in the presence of God in Heaven. They cooperated with God's grace on earth and died in His friendship.

A sign of God's grace. Jesus founded seven of these. 

Sacraments

A person who is sent out at a representative of someone else. Jesus chose twelve men to preach the Good News of salvation and worked miracles in the name of Jesus. They are the first leaders of the Church.

Apostles

The Sacrament of Initiation that strengthens the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It gives us special strength to spread and protect our Catholic faith. 

Confirmation

Jesus' teaching that "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind," and "you shall love your neighbor as yourself." These are a summary of the ten commandments. 

Great Commandments

The leader of a particular diocese and the main teacher of the Catholic faith. He also makes the Sacraments available to the people in his diocese. They are the successors of the Apostles. They guard and protect the teachings of the Church to make sure they are handed on faithfully. 

Bishops

Student. They were followers, or students, of Jesus. Jesus had thousands of these. All Christians are these today. 

Disciples

The prayer that Jesus gave his apostles during the Sermon on the Mount. It contains seven positions asking for the coming of God's Kingdom and our physical and spiritual needs. 

Lord's Prayer (Our Father)

The liturgical celebration and memorial of Christ's sacrifice on the Cross and Resurrection from the dead. Bread and wine are turned into the Body and Blood of Christ.

Mass

A special prayer in which we reflect on the Joyful, Sorrowful, Luminous, and Glorious Mysteries- important events in the lives of the Jesus and Mary. A string of beads with the same name is used. 

Rosary

A habit of doing what is good. We build these through our own efforts and with God's grace.

Virtue

A term we use to describe the Catholic Church. It is made up of the People of God. A body has many parts, just the People of God is made up of different people with different gifts and talents. 

Body of Christ

The Theological Virtue by which we desire the Kingdom of God and eternal life and place our trust in all of God's promises to us.

What are the seven Sacraments?

At the end of Mary's earthly life, she was taken up into Heaven, body and soul. Mary is now in Heaven with her son, crowned Queen of Heaven and is seated at his right hand. This reminds us of how all the members of Christ's Church will rise again! We celebrate this on August 15th.

Communion of Saints

A title given to Jesus used by Scripture and John the Baptist that describes His sacrifice to free us from sin. Just the sacrifice of the Passover lamb freed the Israelites from slavery, Jesus' sacrifice frees us from death and sin a new Passover.

Lamb of God

Objects or actions that are sacred signs of God's grace which prepare us to receive his grace and cooperate with it. Can be a blessing, medals, crosses, scapulars, and rosaries when they are blessed by the Church.
