Color Schemes
Red-Violet, Blue-green, yellow-orange, etc. colors made by mixing a primary color with a secondary color.
Tertiary colors
Colors that are made by mixing Complementary colors. They are a range of browns, and this category of colors include White, Black and Greys.
Neutral Colors
A color made by mixing a hue with Grey.
tone
The use of tints, shades, and colors of one hue.
Monochromatic
Two colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. Examples: Red and green, yellow and purple, blue and orange
Complementary colors
The lightness or darkness of a color.
value
A strong difference shown between two things. In color, a light color next to a dark color.
contrast
The use of black, white, and greys. No colors used
Achromatic
A color on the color wheel and the two neighboring colors of it's complement. Examples: Red, blue-green, and yellow-green
Split complementary colors
A visual representation of a hue and its tints and shades, usually 8-10 swatches.
value scale
Red, blue, yellow. Colors that CANNOT be made from other colors.
Primary colors
Colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. Ex. Yellow, Yellow-Orange, and Orange.
Analogous
A color made by mixing a hue with White.
tint
Green, purple, orange. Colors made by mixing two Primary colors.
Secondary colors
Colors that are seen to have a cool temperature. Think winter. Blue, Green, Purple.
Cool colors
A color made by mixing a hue with Black.
