If you think an alligator is the same as a crocodile, think again. It's true that the two types of animals are related, and they look similar. Yet although both are large reptiles with scales and webbed toes, and both live near water in tropical or semitropical areas, there are important differences between them. An alligator lives only in fresh water, while a crocodile can live in brackish, or somewhat salty, water. An alligator's snout is also wider and "U"-shaped, whereas a crocodile's is longer and "V"-shaped. Finally, their behavior differs: it's generally agreed that crocodiles are more aggressive than alligators. Sequential or compare-contrast

While there are many Chinese restaurants in the United States, the food these restaurants serve is not the same as that served in China. Starting with the basics, the service of water differs. In the United States, most restaurants serve cold water with every meal, whether the customers ask for it or not. In China, however, cold water is never served. Restaurants in China serve hot water or tea. Food ingredients are also not the same. The Chinese use ingredients such as pig ears, chicken feet, duck blood, and jellyfish, which most Americans aren't used to eating. American restaurants, unlike Chinese ones, use broccoli, onion, and dairy products in their recipes. Finally, fortune cookies, so popular in the U.S., are an American invention not generally available in China. Compare-contrast,cause-effect,problem-solution

Almost everyone knows what stress feels like: a tight throat, a clenched jaw, trouble concentrating. On a physical level, whenever your body perceives a threat in the nearby environment (whether that threat is a friend with whom you've had an argument or a lion on the savannah), it releases more of certain hormones, such as cortisol and adrenaline. As a result of the increase in these hormones, the body devotes less attention to functions like digestion and more attention to keeping muscles in a state of tension, ready to fight if they need to. During World War II, the U.S. Navy was segregated by race, and many African Americans were assigned the dangerous work of preparing explosive devices for shipment. On July 17, 1944, as men loaded bombs onto ships at Port Chicago, a California naval base, two ships exploded in a massive blast. The explosion, which was due in part to inadequate safety procedures, killed hundreds, primarily African Americans. The Navy blamed the men for carelessness, and many of the disaster's survivors refused to return to work. As a result, fifty African American men were convicted of mutiny. Their conviction and imprisonment provoked outrage at the Navy's racist policies. Consequently, the Navy began assigning white sailors to share in the hazardous work, and later integrated its forces.
