Reflection Pool/Brick Walls
What is -This is our Reflection Pool that represents an event that took place on our campus. -A young, African American junior at a local high school had won the student council elections. The victory was declared illegal by administrators causing students to walk out of school and picket in protest. The next day more students walked out as well. -Authorities were called which led to others joining the protest. The protests turned violent after a couple of days and became worse as the police fired tear gas as the students threw rocks at the building. -The violence spread to A&T’s campus where students were beaten, tear gassed and/or arrested. Gunfire erupted between the police and the National Guard troops and those on A&T’s campus. Willie Grimes, a student here at A&T, was shot and later passed. These bricks around the reflection pool are the bricks with the actual bullet holes from that event.
