The Gold Rush Boom in which the Asian dreamed of making it rich on “Gold Mountain” when the Gold was discovered in the United Sates. They were tolerated when they arrived in the United States; however they faced restrictive laws and violence. The Gold Rush was a disappointment for Asians as they did not end up getting the gold to bring back to their home country, rather they were forced to work dangerous jobs and make very little money which would prohibit them from gaining a better life style.

Discrimination first struck out while working in California as miners. They refused to pay the Foreign Miner Tax was forced on the immigrants to pay, however it was only to be collected from the Asian immigrants even though European miners were doing the same job.
