Rice was used in many places, namely Eastern China, but the rice we eat now is actually Champa rice which originated in Vietnam. It was brought to China and increased population because it was fast and easy to harvest, and it was very durable. Now about 90% of the world's rice is harvested in Asia with it being the main components of many diets of Asian countries.
