How is Eden described?
Eden is described as a gender queer, nonbinary loner. They had no friends due to his shyness and not fitting in. He is pictured as a brunette kid that supports the 2SLGTBQIA+ community and is actually part of it!
Where is the setting take placed?
The setting is first described at Eden's school locker, and Ms. Barnes's class. The main setting is Eden's school. The school contains, basketball tournaments, lockers, classes, and many students.
What is the genre of this book?
The genre is fiction, because it is a drawn book with chapters. This book contains some unrealistic scenes, and sudden changes during the plot.
One of the main plots of this book
One of the main plots is making friends without judging people by who the way they want to be and how they would like to be described.
What is your favourite part of the book?
My favourite part of the book is when Eden found friends that are similar to him. He is queer, and he found a transgender, lesbian, and queer friend. They all support each other till the day they die, and they will never stop being themselves.
How is Duke described?
Duke is described as a transgender and a gender queer basketball kid. He is popular since he wins basketball tournaments and dunks for the team. He is pictured as an energetic trusting student who you can believe in. He has tan skin and black hair.
What are the other settings?
There is more than just the school. It also shows Eden's house. His house is a little small, since their parents are tight on money.
Even if this is fiction, would this be a clear book not to be homophobic?
Yes. Being homophobic for any reason at all is not acceptable. Even if you are religious, you should at least respect it. You don't have to support it if you don't want to. Respecting the 2SLGTBQIA+ could really help the community and let them freely gain confidence.
The other main plots of Asking For A Friend
The other main plot of the book is how real friends wouldn't decide who you should be to be their friend. It shows how being homophobic to someone could really change someone's life. They could think being gay, lesbian, queer, etc would not be allowed and feel embarrassed and judged. This could lead to committing or stop being gay, lesbian, bisexual, etc.
What is your least favourite part of the book?
My least favourite is when Eden told his friends that when he was friends with a girl back in their old school, Eden finally felt comfortable enough to open up to her. When they opened up, his friend laughed and judged him. I hated that part because not everyone feels comfortable to open up to their friends, and when you laugh at them they feel like everyone would react the same way.
How is Ramona described?
Ramona is described as a rude, untrustworthy volley ball player. She has many enemies including Duke. Eden tries to make them more close, but Duke declines it. Ramona is pictured as a sharp brunette-haired girl.
How is Tabitha described?
Tabitha is described as a funny, kind student who doesn't judge you for who you want to be. She is good friends with Eden, since they hang out frequently at school. I picture Tabitha as a black-haired girl with tanned skin who has great confidence.
