Who is Mendeleev?
The person that organized the periodic table by similar properties.

What are the properties of alkali metals? Name 2.
The most reactive metals in the periodic table of elements. They are a silvery color They can be easily cut. They all have 1 valence electron.

Atomic Radius increases from ______ to ______ across a period and ____ to ______ in a group.
Atomic radius increases from left to right and top to bottom.

What was the later given name for cathode-ray particles?
Electrons

Boron’s atomic number is 5, what’s its proton, electron, neutron?
5 protons,5 electrons, and 6 neutrons

Who is Mosley
The person that organized the periodic table by atomic number.

What are the properties of alkaline earth metals? And why do they have these characteristics? (name and explain at least 2 characteristics)
They are almost as reactive as alkali metals, but they are not as reactive. Why, because their outer shell is full of valence electrons. They are also harder. Why because the full outer shell makes the element sturdier. They are denser, and stronger. Why, because the full outer shell makes there be less room since it is full. They all have 2 valence electrons. Why, because all elements in group 2 have the same number of valence electrons.

The Ionic radius increases from ____ to ______ in a group and decreases from ____ to _____ across a period.
The ionic radius increases from top to bottom in a group and decreases from left to right across a period.

What was discovered from the gold foil experiment?
That every atom contains a nucleus

What are the properties of halogen? Name 4.
They can be found on the periodic table as Group 17. Most reactive nonmetals Very high electronegativity Seven valence electrons Highly reactive especially with alkali metal & alkaline earth

Why was the remodeling of the periodic table by atomic number a much more effective way to organize it?
It gave it a sense of further individuality for each element in showing that they each had a different amount of protons.
300
What are the properties of transition metals? And why do they have these characteristics? (name and explain at least 3 characteristics)
These metals are not as reactive as alkali and alkaline metals. Why, because they have an amount of valence electrons that are not dependent on others to join. They are also good conductors of heat and electricity. Why because like most metals this is how they are. They have a high luster. Why, because that is a characteristic of most metals. Also the valence electrons vary depending on the element. Why, because these elements are not like the others they do not follow the rule of group 1 has 1 valence electron and so on.
300
Why is less ionization energy required as an element moves down a group?
Less ionization energy is required because electrons are located further away from the nucleus and because of them being shielded by inside electrons.
300
What is the planetary model?
Rutherford's model that showed most of the atom's mass was located in the nucleus.
300
What are the properties of noble gasses? And why do they have these characteristics?
They can be found in the Periodic Table as Group 18. Why because thats where they were put on the creation of the periodic table. They all have very similar properties. Why because they all belong to the same family. Not very reactive. Why, because they don't want anymore valence electrons because they already have a full shell. Complete valence shell (8 “full” valence electrons). Why, because elements in the same family have the same number of valence electrons, except transition metals.

How did physical and chemical properties help contribute to the creation of the periodic table?
Physical and chemical properties helped contribute to the creation of the periodic table by separating elements into different groups based on these similar properties. For example the noble gases having 8 valence electrons and are the least reactive group in the periodic table.

What elements have have 7 valence electrons, are the most reactive non-metals and are halogens? Name 3
Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine, Astatine, and Ununseptium.

What where Daltons Postulates concussion?
1.Atoms of an element are the same (mass, size) atoms of different elements are different. 2.Atoms can’t be divided 3.Atoms combine in ratios to form compounds 4. Atoms combine, separate,or rearrange during a chemical reaction

What contributions (in your opinion) did Mendeleev do to better the periodic table and why (do you think that)?
Most probable answer: He left spaces for elements yet to be discovered (student must have good explanation to receive credit as to “why”)
500
What elements have a full outer shell of valence electrons, are not very reactive, and are in group 18? Name 6.
Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon, Radon, and Ununoctium.

What did Bohr model look like and what did it contribute to the modern atomic theory.
In 1913 Bohr created the atomic model which gave a representation of what an atom is supposed to look like.
