aspiration of amniotic fluid at birth or delayed absorption of fluid in the lungs from delivery

When does pathologic jaundice occur for a newborn?

within 24 hrs of life or 7-10 days of age

<35 or plasma concentration <40

When assessing a a newborn, what might you see if the newborn develops TTN?

rapid respirations > 60/min

What is the major cause of pathologic jaundice?

hemolytic disease: Rh sensitization and ABO incompatibility

monitor oxygen saturations

administer oxygen as needed maintain airway patency

birth injury, liver malfunction, infections, enzyme deficiency (G6PD)

What is meconium aspiration and its manifestations?

Meconium is the first stool passed early due to fetal distress. Newborn will have greenish or yellow amniotic fluid.

What is the most common Rh incompatibility?

mothers with group O, and having baby with group A or B

identify high risk neonates and -- check glucose immediately

if hypoglycemic provide early feedings
