hemolytic disease: Rh sensitization and ABO incompatibility

infants with diabetic mothers, preterm, IUGR, asphyxia, hypothermia

monitor oxygen saturations
administer oxygen as needed maintain airway patency
usually resolves itself within 24-48 hrs
What are the other causes of pathologic jaundice?
birth injury, liver malfunction, infections, enzyme deficiency (G6PD)
What are the manifestations of hypoglycemia w/ babies?
apnea/ tachypnea
tachycardia
cyanosis
seizures
loose/ floppy muscles
poor feeding or vomiting

lethargy
What is meconium aspiration and its manifestations?
Meconium is the first stool passed early due to fetal distress. Newborn will have greenish or yellow amniotic fluid.
rapid or labored breathing
crackles
retractions
What is the most common Rh incompatibility?
mothers with group O, and having baby with group A or B
What are the NNTK for IDM?
identify high risk neonates and -- check glucose immediately
if hypoglycemic provide early feedings
if persistent hypoglycemia give -- IV solution of dextrose (D10W)
As the nurse what should you do to manage meconium aspiration?
provide oxygen, surfactant, and or ECMO
When is Rhogam given?
given to Rh - mom at 28 wks
