What is your role and input with the school?

As an administrator, I ensure that teachers have the time, resources, and professional learning necessary to deliver the MYP effectively. I also help communicate the importance of IB practices to staff, students, and families.

100

How does the school’s strategic plan support the long-term goals of the MYP?

Our strategic plan includes goals around inquiry-based instruction, global awareness, and equity in access to advanced programs. These goals directly reinforce the MYP framework and ensure long-term commitment beyond authorization.

100

How are assessment practices aligned with MYP requirements?

Teachers use MYP assessment criteria, GRASPS assessments and rubrics, ensuring consistency across subject groups. Students receive feedback that emphasizes skills and growth, not just grades.

100

How do you engage the wider community in MYP implementation?

We host IB family nights, invite community partners to participate in student and staff recognition, and communicate regularly with families about the philosophy and benefits of the MYP through Remind.

200

Why has the school chosen the IB Middle Years Programme?

We chose the MYP because it offers a rigorous, inquiry-based framework that supports student growth beyond academics. It aligns with our goal of fostering lifelong learners who are curious, reflective, and engaged in their communities.

200

In what ways do you offer support to the leadership team or head of school?

We collaborate on professional development planning, resource allocation, and communication to ensure IB priorities are embedded in schoolwide decisions (PLC time, Team Leader Meetings, 1:1 Check Ins)

200

How are resources allocated to support the MYP?

We dedicate budget for IB training, ensure collaborative planning time for teachers, and purchase materials aligned to inquiry and interdisciplinary learning. Time and funds are intentionally prioritized for MYP implementation. (Plan to increase PTA support)

200

What criteria are used to recruit and retain teachers who are a good fit for MYP?

We look for teachers who value inquiry-based learning, collaboration, and student-centered teaching. Retention is supported through mentoring, ongoing IB training, and opportunities for leadership within the programme.

200

How do parents and stakeholders learn about IB and support efforts?

Parents receive newsletters and updates through our Remind App.  Our long-term plan is to offer parent workshops, and invite parents to participate in student exhibitions and service projects. This keeps them informed and engaged.

300

How do you integrate global contexts and international-mindedness into the curriculum?

Teachers intentionally design units using global contexts so students connect learning to real-world issues. For example, social studies integrates perspectives from multiple cultures, and service learning projects encourage students to take action in their community.

300

Who keeps the school board updated about the programme and developments?

The principal (?) provides regular updates at board meetings, sharing progress, challenges, and student success stories.

300

What challenges have you faced in implementing the MYP, and how have you addressed them?

One challenge has been building staff capacity with integrating IB language with district language. We’ve addressed this by providing ongoing professional development, peer coaching, and opportunities for teachers to observe model IB classrooms.

300

How do you allocate time for IB collaboration?

We build common planning times into the master schedule and use professional learning communities to focus on interdisciplinary units and assessment alignment.

300

How does the school ensure long-term community buy-in for IB?

By celebrating student successes, highlighting IB connections in newsletters and board meetings, and involving community partners in projects that showcase IB in action.

400

Where do you see the school in the next 3–5 years?

We see ourselves fully authorized - PYP included - as Alex Sanger IB World School, with strong teacher collaboration structures, sustained parent and community engagement, and students confidently leading projects that connect local and global issues.

400

How often do you meet as a board, and what is discussed regarding IB?

The board meets monthly (?), and IB is a standing agenda item. We review updates on implementation, training needs, and alignment to our school’s strategic plan.

400

What systems are in place to ensure successful implementation for teachers and students?

We have collaborative planning teams, regular check-ins with the IB coordinator, and student reflection structures like portfolios and service logs to ensure both teachers and students engage meaningfully with the programme.

400

How do you support teachers in implementing IB requirements consistently?

Through ongoing training, classroom walkthroughs with feedback, and peer collaboration sessions that keep MYP practices front and center.

400

How do you envision the school’s growth and impact as an IB World School?

We envision a thriving school where IB principles shape not only academics but also our culture - with students leading as problem solvers and global citizens who positively impact both our local and international communities.  We envision this starting with our PYP students, and encouraging students to continue through the DP Program.
