What are tutorials?
Tutorials are the academic and collaborative work we do in AVID. Tutorials are a practice of identifying points of confusion in each academic core class and addressing them in small groups.
Why do we emphasize ORGANIZATION so much in AVID?
Organization is fundamental to becoming a successful student. If you are able to organize your time, assignments, and materials, you will learn better.

Why are tutorials helpful?
If practiced well, tutorials can help you develop communication, presentation and problem-solving skills. Tutorials can also be helpful in addressing assignments that are confusing in your classes.
How should an AVID Binder be organized?
An AVID binder should be 2-3"" with pocket inserts, include a tab for each class, a pencil pouch with pencils, pens and highlighters. Your binder should also include Cornell Note Paper, Blank TRFs and learning logs. You should also include your planner at the front of your binder.
What are FNT notes?
FNT notes are the annotations we complete on notes we take in academic classes including English, Math, Science and AVID.

What is a TRF?
A TRF is a Tutorial Request Form that MUST be completed BEFORE tutorials. This will usually be your homework assignment on Mondays and they will be checked at the BEGINNING of class on Wednesdays.
What should you write in your planner?
Your planner should include assignments for all classes including due dates and points. You should also include scheduled meetings with teachers or other important reminders. Additionally, when there is a test, quiz, project, or presentation you should include the breakdown of these assignments in separate parts and when you will complete each part. You can also include breaks and incentives you will give yourself to keep you motivated.

Why is AVID important?
AVID will help us set and meet academic and personal goals. The skills we learn in AVID will help us get to college and continue to be successful in college.
What will happen if you do not complete a TRF form?
You will NOT be admitted into class. Without a completed TRF you cannot participate in Tutorials! You will still be required to complete the first part of the TRF outside of class for half credit. If you have three or more missing tutorials a parent conference will be scheduled.
What is a digital organization? How can you organize all classes digitally?
Digital organization refers to being organized online with documents, google classroom assignments, and resources. Each class should have a folder in your Google Drive that is labeled. All corresponding assignments, online handouts, and assignments should be added to the correct folder in your drive.
