A course that must be taken prior to enrollment in another course.
What is a prerequisite?
An exam given in the middle of an academic grading term, or near the middle of any given quarter or semester.
What are mid-terms?
A teacher of the highest rank in a college or university.
What is a professor?
A method of purchasing meals up front for the duration of the semester at the college you attend.
What is a meal plan?
A chance to pursue your college studies in a foreign country.
What is studying abroad?
Tests that measure the academic skills needed for college-level work. They cover reading, writing, math and sometimes other subjects.
What are placement tests?
A person who gives individual, or is some cases a small group, instruction
What is a tutor?
Dropping a class after the drop/add period has ended.
What is a withdrawl?
A party between a single sorority and a fraternity, no one else is invited.
What is a mixer?
A way for students to meet other students, become familiar with campus services, and register for fall classes.
What is freshmen orientation?
The college official who registers students and may also be responsible for keeping permanent records and maintaining your student file.
What is the registrar?
The number of hours assigned to a class. You need a certain number to graduate with a degree.
What are credit hours?
An educational talk to students in a university or college.
What is a lecture?
A real disease when a first time student goes off to college and gains this.
What is freshman fifteen?
A group of people who have graduated from a college or university.
What are alumni?
The position of a student or trainee who works in an organization, sometimes without pay, in order to gain work experience or satisfy requirements for a qualification.
What is an internship?
A teacher or staff counselor who helps a student plan a course of study.
What is an advisor?
Allocated to attend activities like lectures, tutorials and workshops at specific times on your personal timetable.
What is registering for classes?
A student who is responsible for supervising and assisting other, typically younger, students who live in the same residence hall.
What is a resident assistant (RA)?
The title of the highest-ranking officer within the academic administration of a university.
What is the chancellor?
Classes where students get a hands-on experience of the subject being taught during the lecture.
What is a lab?
The required curriculum that makes up the foundation of an undergraduate degree.
What is general education?
Classes for high school students to take college-level courses that can be transferred to a college for credit.
What are dual classes?
A status granted after a trial period to a teacher that gives protection from summary dismissal.
What is tenure?
The executive head of one university.
