A question AVID students must construct that comes from something they find in their notes, textbooks, workbook, quiz, test, or handouts that they do not understand.
What is an Initial Question (IQ)?
This is a Tutorial Request Form, the cornerstone of the AVID tutorial process.
What is a TRF?
I should have seven of these in my binder that are labeled with a subject name and all of my papers and notes for that subject are located BEHIND it.
What are tabbed dividers?
Applying Learning: This is when I save & revisit my notes as a resource and apply my knowledge in class.
What is Stage 5 of the FNT Process?
Focused note taking format that consists of a heading , Tutorial Question (TQ) and two upright rows here notes are written.
What are Two Column Notes?
This is different from the IQ because it contains my key academic vocabulary, it came from my point of confusion, and it is written with higher lever inquiry.

Words & definitions needed to understand the IQ and work through the problem that has been presented.

Processing Notes: Thinking about, revising (chunking, highlighting, adding & deleting), & evaluating the notes I have taken.

Creating Notes: Selecting format, setting up the page, writing an IQ/TQ/EQ and taking notes on the information source by using paraphrasing, abbreviations, and drawings.
What is Stage 1 of the FNT Process?
A format of FNT that has a sepereate section for: a heading, a TQ, notes, questions, and a summary.
What are Cornell notes?
This is where i write what I already know, concepts I understand that relate to my IQ, how I can organize this information, and connections to prior knowledge or another subject.
What is "What do I know about my initial question"?
This is when I give my introductory speech to my group, have academic conversations, check for my classmates understanding, wrap up my presentation, and support my group members.
What is DURING the tutorial?
This is where my workbooks, journals, interactive notebooks, and books go.

Summarizing and Reflecting on Learning: Thinking about my notes as a whole, taking key points, and writing a summary paragraph at the bottom of my notes.
