What do carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores eat? What is one example of each one?

Carnivores eat only meat, an example is a cheetah.

Herbivores eat only plants, an example is a panda.
Omnivores eat everything (plants and meat), an example is a human.

What are materials that allow heat to pass through them easily called? What are materials that do not allow heat to pass through them easily called?

Materials that allow heat to pass through them easily are called conductors

materials that do not allow heat to pass through them easily are called insulators.

What does Earth orbit around?

Earth orbits around the sun.

What are the two different types of energy? How would you describe them?

Kinetic energy is energy an object has because it is moving.
Potential energy is energy an object has when it is not moving, but could.

In the summer time, the Canadian woods are green and brown. In the winter time, they are covered with white snow. The Tawny owl is brown in the summertime, and then sheds and grows new feathers in the winter that are thicker and white. What is the best explanation for this adaptation?

The Tawny owl needs white feathers to hide from predators in the snow, and needs them to be thicker so that they are warmer.

Double jeopardy: What is the difference between volume and mass?

Mass is how much matter is packed into an object, similar to weight but is measured by how much gravity pulls on the object.

Volume is how much space an object takes up.

What are bulges of water in the sea that rise and fall? What causes them to rise and fall?

Bulges of water in the sea that rise and fall are called tides. Movement of the tides is affected by the pull of the moons gravity.

What is the difference between a contact and non-contact force? What is an example of each?

A contact force requires two objects to be touching, a noncontact force acts on objects without another object touching it. An example of a contact force is pulling a wagon. An example of a noncontact force is gravity causing a wagon to roll down a hill.

The graph shows the cost of Kevin building houses over the course of 2 years. According to the graph, how much more money did it cost (in British Pounds) for Kevin to build a house in September 2019 than in January of 2019?

4000 more British Pounds.

What is an inherited trait? What are 2 examples of an inherited trait in humans?

An inherited trait is something passed down from the parents of an organism to the offspring. Examples in humans might include height, hair color, eye color, foot size, skin color etc.

300

What is a heterogeneous mixture? What are two examples of heterogeneous mixtures?

A heterogeneous mixture is a combination of two or more substances that are not evenly mixed and you can see the components of each piece added. Examples include trail mix, a basket of laundry, or cereal in a bowl of milk.

What does the color of a star depend on? What does the brightness of the star depend on?

The color of the star depends on the temperature of the star. The brightness of a star depends on how close or far away it is from Earth.

300

What causes moving objects to stop or slow down?

Friction... Even in a collision, there is friction present. A balanced force means that there was no movement to begin with.

Double jeopardy: What is a niche? What are some examples of a niche?

A niche the job or role an organism plays in it's environment. For example, a cheetah is a predator and a bunny is prey.

400

What is a homogenous mixture (solution)? What is an example of a homogenous mixture?

A homogenous mixture is a mixture where the matter is uniform throughout, meaning that it doesn't look like it's made out of different parts. An example of a homogenous mixture, or a solution, is salt water, juice or steel.

What change do we see on Earth due to Earth's rotation on it's axis? Why don't we feel Earth's movement?
We see a change in night and day, and the stars in the sky to change. We don't feel it because we are also moving with Earth.

Double jeopardy: A car is rolling down a hill and hits another car.

1. What kind of energy does the car at the top of the hill have before it starts rolling?

2. What kind of energy does it gain as it starts rolling?

3. What force causes it to roll?

4. What is the contact called?

5. Why does the car that was rolling suddenly stop?

6. What happens to the energy from the car that is rolling when it hits the stationary car?

1. Potential energy

2. Kinetic energy
3. Gravity
4. Collision
5. Friction
6.It is transferred to the stationary car.

What is the difference between camouflage and mimicry? Give an example of each.

Camouflage is when an organism is able to hide or disguise itself by changing its appearance or covering it up. An example is a chameleon.

Mimicry is when an organism mimics or imitates another organism or object in nature to protect itself. An example of this is a butterfly that is non-venomous having the same patterns as a butterfly that is venomous so animals don't eat it.

What is the difference between a chemical change and physical change? What are examples of each?

A physical change causes the appearance and or state of the matter to change such as freezing or boiling water, cutting wood, crumbling paper. A chemical change forms a new substance and often the matter cannot go back to it's original form. Chemical change examples are rusting, cooking/baking, rotting etc.

The stars in the night sky appear to change position because of Earth's revolution and what else? Besides the stars, what else in the sky appears to look different throughout the month?

Earth's revolution and rotation change the way stars and the phases of the moon appear in the sky.

What did Isaac Newton discover? What are Isaac Newton's 3 Laws of Motion?

Newton discovered gravity. His three laws are:

1.) Inertia = Objects in motion stay in motion, object at rest stay at rest

2.) In order for an object to change motion, a force must act upon it. (Force is when work is done to an object)

3.) Every action has an equal and opposite reaction (If I push a table, the table pushes back on me).
