You have something to add to class discussion, but Mrs. Podolinsky is in the middle of a LONG explanation about adjectives. What should you do?

Raise my hand and wait to be called on.

100

You do not have a pencil when you walk into Mrs. Podolinsky's class. What do you do?

I MUST have a pencil when I walk into class. I am no longer in sixth grade. If I need a pencil I will ask a classmate. I WILL NOT ASK MRS. PODOLINSKY :)

100

Mrs. Podolinsky is leading a discussion on parts of speech and you do not understand when to use an adverb. You sit there quietly and stare out the window. What is a better solution to this lack of understanding?

Raise your hand and wait to be called upon. Ask Mrs. Podolinsky your question. If you still do not understand, ask for further clarification. It is perfectly normal to need more than one explanation!

100

You are afraid to raise your hand and ask a question in fear of feeling "stupid". Why would this upset Mrs. Podolinsky?

There is no such thing as a stupid question. We would not be able to learn if we did not ask questions.

100

What are the colors of the four main pods in the middle school?

tan, blue, red, green

200

You receive candy at the end of a class. You forget about your candy and really want to eat it when you get to Mrs. Podolinsky's class. What should you do?

Ask permission and comply with Mrs. Podolinsky's response to my request.

200

Your locker is just around the corner from Mrs. Podolinsky's room. You know she is very understanding, so you take advantage of this fact and talk to your friends until the bell rings before going to her class. What will be Mrs. Podolinsky's response when you walk into B113?

All tardies will be marked in the attendance binder. I will receive a verbal warning for the first, second, and third tardy, but each following tardy will result in disciplinary action. The middle school handbook states, "Detention will be issued after the third tardy and every tardy after that during each grading period."

200

You are assigned groups and you are not friends with anyone in your group. You feel shy and a little uncomfortable working with them. What should you do?

(Answers will vary) Make sure you introduce yourself if you don't know the names of the members of your group. Be polite and stay on task. Be sure to work together and do equal parts of the assignment.

200

You really enjoy joking around and having fun. In the middle of a serious discussion, you decide to add a little humor. Why could this be a problem?

(Answers may vary) There is a time and place for jokes and humor. Mrs. Podolinsky likes to joke around as well, but make sure your comments are appropriate to the type of discussion occurring in class at the time you attempt to add to the conversation.

200

True or false? The middle school used to have "open classrooms", which means the building did not have walls between each classroom.

True

300

You forget to turn off your cell phone and it rings in the middle of class. What actions will Mrs. Podolinsky be required to take because of the school handbook rules?

My phone will be taken and turned into the principal. My parents will be required to pick up my phone at the end of the day.

300

You really need to use the restroom as you are working on your bell ringer at the start of class. You knew you should have used the restroom before class started instead of going the LONG way to B113. What should you do?

Do not ask to use the restroom unless it is absolutely necessary. Make good choices on the way to class. If you need to use the restroom and have time, do so. If you do not have time to use the restroom, ask to use the restroom as SOON as you arrive to class.

300

You are permitted to pick your group for a group assignment. Naturally, you try to pick all of your friends so you can have a fun time and talk about your plans for the weekend. What is a better solution to this situation?

(Answers may vary) Having the freedom to pick your group is wonderful, but comes with a lot of responsibility. Choose wisely when given the opportunity to pick others for group assignments. You may have fun, but the assignment is your priority.

300

You and another student are working on an assignment together. You come to a point in the assignment where you disagree. What do you do?

(Answers may vary) Take turns discussing why each of you think your answer is correct. BE RESPECTFUL. If you cannot come to a resolution, ask Mrs. Podolinsky for assistance in solving the problem.

300

Who are the middle school principal and assistant principal?

Mr. Kostelnik is the principal and Mrs. Benz is the assistant principal.

400

You spend all night working on a paper for Mrs. Podolinsky's class. There are a few ideas from a website you really want to include in your paper, so you decide to copy and paste them into the third paragraph. What is this action called and what will happen to you?

This is called plagiarism, or taking someone's words or ideas and passing them off as your own. This is cheating and will not be tolerated. I will receive a 0% on the assignment for a first offense. If I attempt to plagiarize again, school handbook rules will be enforced.

400

You worked extremely hard on a homework assignment for English class. You arrive to class only to find you forgot your assignment in your locker. What should you do?

Do not ask to go to your locker. No one will be permitted to return to their locker during class for any reason. You can submit the assignment later that day for partial credit.

400

Your English class has been assigned time in class to work on a creative project. You have the opportunity to utilize all classroom materials and even bring in some of your own. We lose track of time and only have a few minutes to clean up before the bell rings. As the bell rings, the classroom is still not fully clean. What should you do?

First, be sure to return all materials you have been using during class. Never leave the classroom unless you have cleaned up your own mess. If you have time, help others clean up their materials as well.

400

One of your classmates answers a question wonderfully and adds further insight about the topic. Mrs. Podolinsky praises the student. Should you be afraid to add your opinion to the conversation just because someone else answered correctly first? Why or why not?

Absolutely not! Just because Mrs. Podolinsky praises someone else does not mean your response isn't just as good, or even better. All students have amazing ideas and deserve praise. Don't be afraid to share your input!

400

Name a teacher from each pod within ten seconds.

Answers will vary.

It is only 7:15 a.m., and you are having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day! You woke up late because you were fighting with your sister last night. You didn't eat breakfast and you almost missed your bus. Worst of all, once you finally made it on the bus, you realized you had homework in math class and completely forgot about it. You are upset and frustrated and yell at the first person that greets you as you walk into school. What is a better solution to this situation?

(Answers will vary) Life doesn't always work out the way we want it to. Things happen, but we need to recognize who or what caused them and deal with our emotions properly. This is difficult to do, but always think before you speak!

500

You unfortunately become ill and miss a day of school. Upon returning to school, what should you do?

We still work when you are not there! (Shocking!) Check the assignment board and assignment bin before asking Mrs. Podolinsky what you missed. Once you've retrieved your work and if you still don't understand what to do, then ask.

500

We will read several novels this year. During a discussion about a novel, you disagree with the opinion of classmate. How should you handle your difference of opinion?

(Answers may vary) I am encouraged to share my opinion and have the right to do so, RESPECTFULLY. I must be mindful of others feelings, as well as my own.

500

You are excited to wear a new shirt to school. You get to your locker in the morning wearing your new shirt only to be greeted with rude comments from a friend about your shirt. How do you APPROPRIATELY handle this situation?

(Answers may vary) Don't ever be afraid to BE YOURSELF. That means wear what you want, say what you want, do what you want. You are your own person. Don't be afraid of what others think or say about you. People will judge you your entire life. BE STRONG, BE YOU.
