What happened on October 14th and October 17th, 1781?

On October 14th, American and French forces get ready to surprise attack the British. A diversionary attack is set to come from the North, so it looks like the town itself will be attacked. However, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Hamilton leads a force of 400 men to stealthily sneak into enemy lines and to attack the fortification. They unload their muskets, so that a stray shot doesn't give them away. John Laurens provides backup once the fighting starts, to prevent the British from escaping. The forces then start to battle their way through the British, taking out large parts of the British army. 

On October 17th, the British are seen raising a white flag, officially surrendering.
