Fundations! What is that?
Fundations is our phonics program that we will be using! The students will learn different phonics rules to help with reading and spelling. The students will learn strategies like tapping out each sound in a word and spelling it. They will also learn trick words that they will have to memorize to spell since they break our phonics rules!
Envision Program! What is it?
Envision is a math program that we will be using that teaches multiple strategies on how to solve a problem. For example, if the students are adding within 20, the whole topic will show different strategies to use to add within 20 by using a number line, using cubes, drawing pictures, and etc.
I give students points when they are working hard, being professional, following rules, or do something amazing! 100 dojo points gets them a prize from the prize box!
I went to a college close to here and got my certifications in Elementary Education and Special Education. What college or university do you think it is?
Centenary University! Graduated in 2016!
DRA Assessment/Sight Word Assessment. What it is?
I will be doing a Reading Assessment and a Sight Word Assessment throughout the year to get a better idea of where your child is at with their reading level! (Sight Words are words that are most common in all texts like the word "the" "said" "once" "and") I will always keep you posted on where they are at and what they can do to move up reading levels!
Math Facts! How will math facts be taught?
We will be practicing math facts throughout the year. A great website to help with math facts is Xtra-Math and the students will be using it through the whole year. The website goes at the students' pace and will only have them move on until they have mastered a set of math facts!
Fill a Bucket! What that is.
I will eventually have students take coins out of a big bucket and put it into their buckets. Once my bucket is empty, the class gets to pick a class reward to do! They earn coins by being kind, working hard, following rules, and respecting others!
True or False. I have a son name Rowen and a Cat named Randal?
True! My son is 3 and a half and if you really want to know, my cat is 5 years old!
ELA Centers! What are they?
Eventually the students will be working in ELA centers while I meet with a small group to do direct instruction on a reading strategy (like making connections, cause and effect, visualizing). The students will go on websites to read stories, practice their phonics (websites and worksheets), and learn how to write different types of stories like "How To's, Persuasive essasys, letters)
Math Centers! What is that?
Eventually students will be working in math centers while I am working with a group of students on their math lesson. These centers include some websites, independent practice of a lesson we have already learned about, and steam activities that involve our math lessons!
Star of the Week! What is it?
At the end of the September, I will pick a student each week to become the star of the week! They will have 5 days of doing cool things and sharing a poster about themselves. I will let you know when your child is the star of the week!
What sport do you think I played in college?
Soccer! I was a defender all 4 years!
Take Home Reading Folder! What is that?
Nope! No math homework! (I will sometimes suggest extra practice with math facts, but I will let you know if your child could benefit from it!)
Positive Reinforcement!
My classroom management is all about being positive and to show students how to be respectful and responsible. Anytime they do something amazing (big or small) I will let them know with either dojo points, filling buckets, me saying something to everyone, and rewards!
Coffee! I need that extra energy!
