What is an atom?

basic building blocks (microscopic units) that makes up all matters in the universe

100

Who cemented Atomic Theory into scientific communty?

John Dalton

True or False: A French Chemist created the periodic table

False, it was a Russian chemist named Dmitri Mendeleev who created the periodic table

100

True or false: The symbol for Hydrogen is "H"

True

100

Are people made out of atoms?

yes

200

1 atom is made of what?

(Hint: there are 3)

Protons, Electrons, & Neutrons

200

Who discovered electrons and won a Nobel Prize as a result of his research?

J.J. Thomson

200

Did the periodic table came from a dream?

Yes

200

Where are Non-metals typically found in the periodic table?

generally found on the far right

200

True or False: Everything is made out of atoms.

True

300

What are the charges of Proton, Neutrons , and electrons?

Protons are Positive, Neutrons are neutral, and Electrons are negative.

300

Was it Democritus or Aristotle who 1st proposed everything is made of tiny particles surround by empty space?

Democritus

300

What is atomic number?

number of protons in an atom

300

There are ___ rows to represent the periods and there are ____columns to represent the groups.

There are 7 rows to represent the periods and there are 18 columns to represent the groups.

300

Are there are more known stars than there are molecules

no. there are more molecules than known stars!

How would atoms behave in gas, liquid, and solid state?

Gas- Atoms are far apart and move rapidly in random directions, frequently colliding with each other and the container walls.

Liquid- Atoms are still close together, but have enough energy to break their rigid bonds. They constantly move, slide, and flow past one another.

Solid-Atoms are tightly packed in a fixed, orderly structure. They cannot move past one another but continuously vibrate in place.

400

Which scientist understand electrons move in orbit of the nucleus similar to planets orbiting the sun? Hint: He created Bohr model

The Danish physicist Niels Boh

400

True or false: In the 1860s, elements were studies based on their reactivity and that included the non-reactive noble gases.

False: the non-reactive noble gases has not been discovered yet.

400

True or false: Hydrogen is located on the far left of the table but is classified as a non-metal.

true; this is because hydrogen has one valence electron just like the alkali metals in Group 1. It is classified as a non-metal because it shares physical and chemical properties with other non-metals rather than metals

400

What is "Entropy"?

Entropy describes the way things & energy can be arranged based on random motion. It also favors mixing.

500

Do atoms move in a straight orbit or do they move more as a wave?

Wave

500

Who is the father of father of nuclear physics where atoms are largely made of empty space with few electrons while most of the mass are located in the center?

Ernest Rutherford

500

Fill in the blank: The periodic table is a representation of r_____.

reality; a way of understanding and sorting the universe as it exists.

500

Explain how to read the periodic table

Elements are ordered left to right, top to bottom by increasing atomic number. Each square provides the element's name, symbol, atomic number, and atomic mass, while its position reveals its family and chemical properties.
