Basic Symbols
This symbols is found at the beginning of each staff and tells the musician that the following pitches are higher.
What is a Treble Clef?
This notes value is four beats of sound.
What is a whole note?
This word means a moderate or walking tempo.

This word means to sing very soft.

This symbol tells a singer to sing two different notes in a connected way.
What is a slur?
This symbol lowers a pitch by a half step.
What is a flat?
This note is commonly seen in pairs connected by a beam and gets 1/2 beat of sound.
What is an eighth note?
This word means a very fast pace.
What is vivace?
This word means to sing moderately loud.
What is mezzoforte?
This word means to sing many notes in a smooth and connected way.
What is legato?
This is what we call equal portions of music throughout a piece.
This symbol signifies one beat of silence.

This word means short and detached.
What is staccato?
This symbol over a note means to hold it longer than its value.
What is a fermata?
This symbol at the very beginning of a piece of music tells the musician how many beats per measure and what type of note gets the beat.
What is a time signature?
This word means a loose tempo with push and pull in an expressive way.
What is rubato?
This is another word for decrescendo, or gradually get softer.
What is diminuendo?
This symbol means to hold one note through the next note (which is the same note) instead of singing the note twice.
