When the Lead initiates rotation, this is one of three reasons the Lead should stop and back out.

What is, a) an immediate shot;

b) a drive to the basket; or

c) a cross-court (skip) pass?

100

The ball becomes live when one of these three things occur.

What is, a) on a jump ball, the toss leaves the official's hand(s);

b) on a throw-in, it is at the disposal of the thrower; or

c) on a free throw, it is at the disposal of the free thrower?

100

These are two of four situations during which a team is in control of the ball.

What is, a) when a player of a team is in control; b) while a live ball is passed among teammates; c) during an interrupted dribble; or d) when the player of the team has the ball at his/her disposal for the throw-in.

100

Adjudicate the following play: Team A requests and is granted a 60 second timeout. After approximately 15 seconds have elapsed, both teams take positions and appear ready to resume play.

Resume the game as soon as both teams are ready to play.

200

This is the proper mechanic for a 60-second (full) timeout.

200

The opportunity to make an alternating-possession throw-in is lost if the throw-in team does this.

What is, violates?

200

A closely guarded count shall be terminated when the offensive player in control of the ball gets his/her these (_____ & ______) past the defensive players.

What are, head and shoulders?

200

A1 is about to attempt the first FT of a 1-and-1. The administering official erroneously steps in and informs players that two shots will be given. The missed FT is rebounded by B1, with all other players motionless. Officials recognize their error at this point. How do you proceed?

Play should be ruled dead immediately and resumed using the alternating-possession arrow.

300

As a guideline, the Lead should rotate when the ball is near this (the ____-____ ____ ____ _____) in the Center's coverage area.

What is, the "free-throw lane line extended"?

300

Following the jump ball between A1 and B1 to start the first quarter, the jump ball is touched simultaneously by A2 and B2 and then it goes out of bounds. How should you proceed?

A2 and B2 will jump in the center restraining circle regardless of where the ball went out of bounds.

300

A screen is a legal action by a player who, while touching the playing court and without doing this, -- _____ ______ -- delays or prevents an opponent from reaching a desired position.

What is, causing contact?

300

During a throw in on the sideline, the thrower A1 throws the ball against the side of the backboard, after which it rebounds into the hands of A2 who scores a layup. How do you proceed?

As the front or side of a backboard are inbounds during a throw in, the play is legal and the two points are scored. Team B has the ability to run the endline during its throw in.

400

On a drive from the trail down the lane with a pass out to the Trail side, these are the pass-and-crash responsibilities off all three officials (i.e., who has the pass and who has the crash according to the manual?).

What is, the Trail stays with the pass while the Center and Lead watch the crash?

400

During an alternating-posession throw-in, thrower A1 holds the ball through the end-line plane and B1 grabs it, resulting in a held ball. How should you proceed?

Since the throw-in had not ended and no violation occurred, it is still A's ball for an AP throw-in.

400

These are three of the five stipulations that may determine whether or not an intentional foul may be called.

What is, a) contact that neutralizes an opponent's obvious advantageous position;

b) contact away from the ball on an opponent who is clearly not involved with the play;

c) contact that is not a legitimate attempt to play the ball/player specifically designed to stop the clock or keep it from starting;

d) excessive contact with an opponent while the ball is live or until an airborne shooter returns to the floor; or

e) contact with a thrower in?

400

The score is tied at the end of regulation. During the OT period, the official scorer informs you that Team A had an additional point in the 4Q that was not counted. You review the scorebook and recognize where a point was not properly credited to Team A. How do you proceed?

Add a point to Team A's score, but continue the overtime period to completion.

500

This is the proper procedure for notifying the coach of a player who was disqualified for his/her 5th foul.

What is, inform the coach, inform the player, inform your partners, then notify table personnel to start the 15-second substitution clock? The timer will sound the horn at the start of the 15 seconds and again at the end of the interval.

500

A1 passes the ball to A2. However A2 is not looking. The ball strikes A2 on the back of the head, then goes directly above the basket for Team A. The ball is on the ring when time expires and subsequently enters the basket. What's your ruling and why?

No goal, as a try or tap for a field goal is made with the hand(s). Since it was not a try, the ball became dead immediately when time expired.

500

These are the four stipulations required when guarding a moving opponent without the ball.

a) Time and distance are required to obtain the initial LGP;

b) the guard shall give the opponent time and/or distance to avoid contact, which

c) need not be more than two strides; and

d) if the opponent is airborne, the guard shall have obtained LGP before the opponent left the floor?

500

Adjudicate the following play: The bonus is in effect and while the ball is in flight during a 3-pt try by A1, A2 charges into B1. Following this, there is a basket-interference violation by B2.

Both the foul and violation are penalized in the reverse order of occurrence. Three points are awarded to Team A because the the violation by B2. B1 is then awarded bonus 1-and-1 FTs.

500

How do you adjudicate? White is in the bonus prior to all hell breaking loose.

A6 and A7 are charged with flagrant technical fouls and are disqualified. Eject the fan who left the stands. Double technicals on A1 and B1, those cancel out (no FTs). Coach A is assessed 1 indirect technical foul for bench personnel leaving with a maximum of 2 FTs awarded to Team B. So A1 shoots bonus FTs with the lane cleared, then anyone from Team B shoots 2 FTs. Team B gets the ball at the division line.
