Violations
A player stops their dribble and begins dribbling again without the ball touching another player or the basket.
What is a double dribble?
A defender reaches in and cleanly knocks the ball away without making any contact with the offensive player.

Blue vs Red. Blue is the last team to touch the ball before it goes out of bounds on the baseline.
What is red ball on the baseline?
A defender holds onto an offensive player’s jersey to stop their movement.
What is a holding foul?
An official calls a shooting foul on player A. Player A is infuriated and goes up to the official and smacks them across the face.
What is an ejection?
This violation occurs when a player holding the ball moves their pivot foot illegally before passing, shooting, or dribbling.
What is traveling?
A shooter jumps straight up for a layup. A defender also jumps straight up with both arms vertical. The shooter creates the contact.
What is No Whistle? What is legal verticality?
The ball gets wedged between the rim and backboard.
What is possession determined by the arrow?
A defender slides under a shooter who is already in the air attempting a layup.
What is a blocking foul?
A1 hustles to keep the ball in bounds. A1 is running so fast that after saving the ball, they run out of bounds and run back in to retrieve the ball. There was no other player nearby to touch the ball before A1 obtains it again.
What is out of bounds?
A player in the frontcourt causes this violation by being the first to touch the ball after their team has returned it to the backcourt.
What is a backcourt violation?
An offensive player drives to the basket. A defender slides into position after the offensive player has already left the floor and significant contact occurs.

Player 1 is fouled in the act of shooting a 3 and makes it.
What is Player 1 shoots 1 free throw?
An offensive player lowers their shoulder and drives into a defender who has established legal guarding position.
What is a charge/player control foul?
Team A has possession and is dribbling the ball. A player from Team B looks at you and asks for a timeout.
What is a no call?
While closely guarded, an offensive player in the frontcourt may not hold or dribble the ball for more than this many seconds.
What is five seconds?
A shooter pump fakes. The defender jumps vertically in front of the shooter. The shooter then jumps forward creating shoulder to chest contact with the airborne defender and takes a shot.

Player 1 is dribbling when the official blows an inadvertent whistle and player 1's team had clear possession of the ball.
What is Team 1 inbounds the ball at the nearest spot?
A player sets a screen but is moving laterally into the defender without giving them time and distance.
What is an illegal/moving screen?
A1 is fouled in the act of shooting and makes the basket.
What is count the basket + 1 free throw (and 1).
An offensive player takes a layup attempt, and his teammate thinks it's a lob pass. While the ball is already above the rim, the teammate tips it through the basket.
What is (offensive) basket interference?
A shot is taken and a defender legally boxes out an offensive player under the basket. The offense jumps up and pushes the defender from the back at an attempt to retrieve the rebound. Despite this effort, the defender manages to still seal the opponent to gain possession of the rebound.

Player 1 is fouled while shooting a 2 pointer. The shot misses. Immediately after the whistle, a defensive player receives a technical foul for cursing.
What is Player 1 shoots 2 free throws for personal foul with everyone back and then Player 1's team gets 2 more free throws for technical foul with everyone back and Player 1's team gets possession at half after?
Two players fight for rebounding position. One uses forearm pressure, the other responds with equal pressure, and neither gains advantage.
What is a no foul?
It is a tie game with 2 seconds left. Player 1 with possession of the ball takes 2 more dribbles before heaving a half-court shot very closely to the horn. Official A says they did not get it on time, but Official B says they did and marks the 3 good.
