Beginning
Many Years ago, It was customary
for a young brave, as she approached the age of adulthood to select for herself a blood brother.
When two
young braves had thought carefully & reached their decision,
When evening came,
they built a fire, and, by its light each took from its sheath her hunting knife, and slashed her arm.
It was felt
that not only would she be choosing a lifelong friend, but by this action
they went
before the Chief to ask his permission to perform the ceremony of blood brotherhood.
The two
bleeding arms were then bound tightly together
she would symbolize
the spirit of friendship and brotherhood that existed among all members of the Tribe.
The Chief
knowing that this was good, sent the alone into the wilderness
that the blood
of one might mingle with that of the other.
