Verbal behavior which functions as access, such as to make a request for items, actions or escape.
What is a mand?
A teaching method that involves breaking skills down into smaller components and teaching those smaller sub-skills individually, with the use of a 3 term contingency.
What is discrete trial teaching/training (DTT)?
Data collection method which includes recording the antecedent, behavior and consequence surrounding a behavioral event.
What is ABC data?
Consequence which increases the likelihood that the preceding behavior will occur again in the future.
What is reinforcement?
Antecedent strategy used to prepare a client for a situation or task by providing them with relevant information beforehand, such behavior expectations and setting details.
What is priming?
Verbal behavior of labeling or naming objects, actions, or events.
What is tacting?
The antecedent stimulus that has stimulus control over a target behavior, signalling that the target behavior will be reinforced.
What is discriminative stimulus (Sd)?
Phase of data collection which involves observing current response rates in the presence of the discriminative stimulus without the use of teaching strategies or consequence strategies.
What is baseline?
A procedure used when an incorrect response is given by the client, including feedback and representation of the trial with increased prompting support.
What is error correction?
An individualized description of the topography of maladaptive behaviors and the strategies used to modify these behaviors in each phase.
What is an escalation cycle?
A form of verbal behavior that requires the listener to respond to another's verbal behavior, and may also be called receptive language.
What is listener responding?
Personalized teaching method that focuses on skill acquisition through play in a learning environment that the child is familiar with and feels comfortable in.
What is natural environment teaching (NET)?
Data collection phase where the client demonstrates continued skill performance over time after teaching methods have ceased.
What is maintenance phase?
Instructional strategy which ensures the client always responds correctly, by prompting to prevent errors immediately after the Sd is presented (also known as zero second delay prompting).
What is errorless teaching/learning?
A consequence intervention that involves presenting demands or other types of distracters to interrupt an interfering behavior and redirect it to a more appropriate response.
What is response interruption and redirection?
A form of verbal behavior where the speaker responds to another's verbal behavior, in a verbal exchange such as question asking/answering and conversation.
What is an intraverbal?
The process of gradually reducing the level, magnitude, timing, etc. of prompts to work towards independence.
what is prompt fading?
The phase where the client applies a mastered target to a similar situation that was not specifically taught.
What is generalization phase?
Reinforce successive approximations to the target response.
What is shaping?
A response interruption and redirection strategy which uses preferred interests to terminate a behavior, usually early in the escalation cycle (trigger phase).
What is interest distraction?
A secondary verbal operant that modifies one's own primary verbal behavior and is controlled by an MO in that it commands the listener to take some sort of action

Three term contingency of DTT format.
What is Sd - R - C? (or discriminative stimulus, response, consequence)
Phase of data collection in which the teaching strategy is actively used during each teaching trial, and data collection usually includes the prompt level used to teach the target response.
What is intervention phase?
Teaching strategy based on task analysis, in which individual steps are taught in order, (either backwards, forward or whole order). Procedure breaks a task down into small steps and then teaches each step within the sequence by itself.
What is chaining?
Reinforcement that is provided for maladaptive behavior (often unintentionally) is discontinued in order to decrease or eliminate occurrences of these behaviors.
