Overall
100

Where do the chromosomes line up in the cell before splitting

The chromosomes line up in the center of the cell

100

what is the process above?

Mitosis

100
What is the part of the cell cycle that is preparing for mitosis

Interphase

100

What are the names of the 4 stages?

Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase

100

What is mitosis?

When a cell divides

200

What are chromosomes in a Eukaryotic cell, and how many do humans have?

Chromosomes are curled strands of DNA. Humans have 46 chromosomes

200

which Phase is shown above?

Metaphase

200

What happens to the DNA before mitosis occurs

The DNA is replicated

200

What is the "5th" step where the cytoplasm is actually split?

Cytokinesis

200

What are the reasons for cell division?

To grow and repair

300

What bonds the chromosome together when the DNA is copied

The Centromere

300

A:B:C:

Which picture above represents Telophase?

Picture A

300

In what phase and part of the cell cycle is the DNA replicated?

The S phase of Interphase

300

In which stage do the spindle begin to form and the chromosomes condense, becoming visible?

Prophase

300

What is the "extra phase" of interphase where a cell can "exit" the cell cycle?

The phases where a cell can "exit" the cell cycle is called the G0 phase.

400

What forms during prophase that later during anaphase pulls the chromosomes to the opposite sides of the cell?

Spindle Fibers

400

Lable all the parts of the item shown above including its overall name:

The center dots: Centromere

Each side: Chromatid

In total: Chromosome

400

How many phases are in Interphase, and what are all of the phases called?

there are 3 phases, G1, S, and G2

400

In which phases of mitosis do the chromosomes condense and become visible?

Prophase

400

Once the cell goes through the G0 phase, can it ever re-enter the cell cycle? When would this phase occur?

No once a cell enters the G0 phase it can never leave. If this phase occurs it would be directly after the G1 phase.

500

What surrounds chromosomes and is a part of 2 of the phases in mitosis?

The nuclear envelope

500

What are the yellow lines and yellow dots representing in the diagram above?

The yellow lines are the spindle fibers, and the yellow dots are the centrioles

500

What occurs during each phase of interphase?

In the G1 phase, the cell increases in size and prepares to replicate its DNA. In the S phase, the cell replicates its DNA, now the cell has 2 complete sets of chromosomes. And last, in the G2 phase, the cell increases in size for the 2nd time.

500

What is the main part of each phase in mitosis?

Prophase: spindle fibers form and chromosomes condense becoming visible

Metaphase: the chromosomes line up in the center of the cell

Anaphase: the chromosomes are pulled to opposite sides

Telophase: the nuclear envelopes reform and the cell begins to divide

500

How does Cytokinesis occur in both plant and animal cells?

In animal cells, the cell membrane pinches in the center. Though, since plant cells have the cell wall in addition to the cell membrane, instead of the cell membrane just pinching, a cell plate is formed in the center of the cell, splitting the 2.
