what is New moon
When does a lunar eclipses happen?
at night

During the day
During what phase do neap tides occur?
What is the 1st or 3rd quarter moon phase
When the moon is about to become a new moon, what phase is it in?
What is a waning cresent
what phase is the moon in halfway through its full rotation?
What is a full moon
Place in order the sun, the moon and the earth during lunar eclipses

During what phase do spring tides occur?
What is a new or full moon phase
What do we call the portion the moon travels into during a total eclipse?
What is the umbra
What do we call the moon phase when the moon is 1/4 around earth?
What is the first quarter
Why do lunar eclipses happen?
Because the Earth comes between the moon and the sun
How long does it take for total solar eclipses to occur?
every 7 years
Why do tides go down (low tide)
Because of the moon's gravitational pull
Why do solar eclipes happen?
because the moon comes in between earth and the sun

What is the 3rd/last quarter moon
Where is the moon in a partial eclipse?

What is a full moon or new moon
Where is the moon during a total eclipse?
What is the umbra
Explain the difference betwen a partial and total solar eclipse.
Total eclipses require observers to be within the path of totality(umbra) while partial eclipses can be viewed from a broader area (penumbra). The sun or moon is completely blocked during a total and in a partial eclipse, the sun or moon is only partially obscured.
When or how often do we experience our highest big tides?
Every 12 hours
Approximately how many partial eclips do we have each year?
At least 2 a year
