100

When does a lunar eclipses happen?

at night

100

When does a solar eclipses happen?

During the day

100

During what phase do neap tides occur?

What is the 1st or 3rd quarter moon phase

100

When the moon is about to become a new moon, what phase is it in?

What is a waning cresent

200

what phase is the moon in halfway through its full rotation?

What is a full moon

200

Place in order the sun, the moon and the earth during lunar eclipses

What is sun, earth, moon

200

List the order the moon, earth and the sun are in during a solar eclipses

Sun, moon and then Earth

200

During what phase do spring tides occur?

What is a new or full moon phase

200

What do we call the portion the moon travels into during a total eclipse?

What is the umbra

300

What do we call the moon phase when the moon is 1/4 around earth?

What is the first quarter

300

Why do lunar eclipses happen?

Because the Earth comes between the moon and the sun

300

How long does it take for total solar eclipses to occur?

every 7 years

300

Why do tides go down (low tide)

Because of the moon's gravitational pull

300

Why do solar eclipes happen?

because the moon comes in between earth and the sun

400

If the moon does a half rotation and then a quarter rotation what moon phase does it end up on?

What is the 3rd/last quarter moon

400

Where is the moon in a partial eclipse?

what is penumbra

400

Where is the earth in a partial eclipse?

Where is the penumbra

400

Which type of TOTAL eclipse are you most likely to see in your lifetime and why?

What is a lunar eclipse

400

Why do we have tides?

What is the moons gravitational pull

500

What phases does the moon have to be in for an exlcipse to happen?

What is a full moon or new moon

500

Where is the moon during a total eclipse?

What is the umbra

500

Explain the difference betwen a partial and total solar eclipse.

Total eclipses require observers to be within the path of totality(umbra) while partial eclipses can be viewed from a broader area (penumbra). The sun or moon is completely blocked during a total and in a partial eclipse, the sun or moon is only partially obscured.

500

When or how often do we experience our highest big tides?

Every 12 hours

500

Approximately how many partial eclips do we have each year?

At least 2 a year
