Anti-semitism grew in Europe, so jews wanted to establish their own state so they went to their holy land, Palestine. Theodore Herzl, a Jewish journalist became alarmed at the strong anti-semitism he witnessed in France so in 1896 he called for jews to establish a state, changed to Isreal.
