Benjamin argued in class that a cotton shirt should be classified as a living plant because he had seen a cotton plant. Is Benjamin right? Why?

Benjamin is wrong because a cotton plant is a living thing, but a cotton shirt is only made from things that were one alive. A cotton shirt doesn't grow, move, respond to changes, die or reproduce, therefore, it cannot be a living thing.

Besides supporting plants, what else can a stem do?
Stems can carry food, water and mineral salts to all parts of the plant. In addition, some stems such as potatoes and ginger, store food for the plant.
