Women in the Bible
The book of Genesis tells us she was the first woman God created.
Who was Eve?
Love your neighbor as __________.
What is yourself? (Leviticus 17:18, Mark 12:31, Matthew 22:39) Found more than once in the Bible, this first appears in a lengthy list of laws in Leviticus. When Jesus was asked which commandment was the greatest, he quoted two, including this one.
This married couple were so at odds that she told his enemies how to take away his strength with a haircut.
Who were Samson and Delilah?
This miracle happened when Moses led the people out of Egypt and across a sea.
What is the sea parted before them so they could pass on dry land? As the Egyptian chariots pursued the Hebrew people, the Lord told Moses to lift up his staff and stretch his arm over the sea to divide it. God parted the water with a strong wind, allowing the Israelites safe passage.
Important events and encounters with God might occur high up on this.
What is a mountain? Although God spoke to people in other places as well, some familiar stories tell of mortals meeting God or having visions on mountaintops. For example, Moses went up a mountain to receive the commandments of God, and God spoke to Elijah on a mountain as well. In the New Testament, three disciples saw Jesus change as his face “shone like the sun” and his clothes became dazzling white on a high mountain.
This animal tempted Adam and Eve in the garden.
What is a serpent (or snake)? The crafty serpent convinced Eve to try the fruit of a tree that was forbidden to them, and both she and Adam ate it, disobeying God.
She was the mother of Jesus.
Who was Mary?
The Lord is my ___________, I shall not want.
What is shepherd? (Psalm 23:1) The beloved 23rd Psalm paints a comforting, pastoral scene even today. But when it was written, everyone would have known just how important a shepherd is, doing the hard and dirty work of providing for a flock, caring for them, and protecting the sheep from predators.
These two men fought a battle, each representing their own people. The smaller man defeated the giant with a stone and a sling.
Who were David and Goliath?
In the wilderness, the people ate this unusual, miraculous food each day.
What is manna? God provided this food to be collected from the ground six days a week.
Some of Pharoah’s soldiers rode in these, a type of carriage.
What are chariots? The type of chariot developed nearly 4,000 years ago were light, fast, two-wheeled vehicles commonly used by military powers in the ancient Near East. Chariots were an important part of armies for over 1,000 years.
Noah sent this bird out from the ark to learn whether the floodwaters had receded.
What is a raven or a dove? First Noah sent a raven, who flew until the waters receded, not returning to Noah. And so he sent a dove, and the dove returned because there was no dry place for it to land. A week later he sent the dove again, and it returned with an olive leaf, so Noah knew that plants were once again growing on the land.
She stuck by her mother-in-law when the men in their lives were gone, saying, “Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.”
Who was Ruth? Though she was from another country, she stayed with Naomi.
You shall bring __________ of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.
What is two? (Genesis 6:19) Before the rains came, God ordered Noah to bring pairs of animals into the ark, to keep them alive during the flood.
This married couple started a family that would grow into the people of Israel.
Who were Abraham and Sarah? (or Abram and Sarai)
This miracle happened in the New Testament to a blind man.
What is Jesus restored his sight?
These destructive, ravenous insects were sent as a plague to Egypt but were also known to attack crops elsewhere.
What are locusts? A type of large grasshopper, these insects swarm in large numbers and can quickly decimate crops. They were sometimes seen as a punishment from God, and in Exodus 10:1–20, they appear as one of the plagues visited upon the Egyptians.
One of the plagues in Egypt was these small, jumpy, croaking animals.
What are frogs? In Exodus 8:1–15, we read about the plague of frogs sent upon the Egyptians in an effort to convince them to release the Hebrew people from slavery.
She was Moses’ younger sister, and she led the women in praising God.
Who was Miriam?
Jesus said, “Let the little ___________ come to me.”
What is children? (Matthew 19:14) The quotation continues, “and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”
These two men were on opposite sides of a struggle. The Egyptian ruler wanted to keep the Hebrew people enslaved, while the other man was called by God to lead them out of Egypt to freedom.
Who were Pharoah and Moses?
Moses experienced this miracle in a bit of shrubbery.
What is the Lord spoke to him from a burning bush?
Jacob used this for a pillow at Bethel.
What is a stone? Jacob was traveling, and when night fell, he used a stone for a pillow. God came to Jacob in his dreams and promised him blessings, so when Jacob awoke, he set up the stone as a pillar and called it God’s house. (Genesis 28:10–22)
Jesus rode into Jerusalem on this animal.
What is a colt (or a donkey or both)? The story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem a few days before his death is told in all the Gospels. Depending on the specific Gospel, we may read that he rode in on a donkey, a colt, or both.
This orphan grew into a beautiful woman, and as queen, she saved her people.
Who was Esther? She was a Jewish woman who became a queen in Persia.

What is love? (1 Corinthians 13:4) Often heard at weddings, this passage about love is intended as a guide for all of life, not only marriage.
These men, one the son of Israel’s king and the other a warrior who would become the new king, could have been enemies but were instead the closest of friends.
Who were Jonathan and David? Jonathan was the son of King Saul and stayed loyal to his friend David, even when King Saul wanted to have David killed.
Three young men experienced this miracle in a fiery furnace.
What is the fire did not burn them? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were cast into a fiery furnace because they refused to bow down to a statue of the king in Babylon. But the king was amazed to see the men walking unharmed in the flames, along with a fourth figure who appeared to be an angel. (Daniel 3)
In a dream, Jacob saw angels climbing on this.
What is a ladder? Jacob dreamt of a ladder set up between Earth and heaven, with angels going up and down. In the same dream, the Lord came to him and promised him many offspring and blessings. (Genesis 28)
These animals were in a den with Daniel but did not harm him.
What are lions? Daniel, a man of faith, was miraculously saved from the lions.
