The author of this gospel was never named in the book. But from today’s reading we read that the author was the “disciple whom Jesus loved.” This and other supporting evidences, as well as sayings from early church fathers, point to the apostle John as the author of this gospel. Thus this gospel is named after John. John said Jesus did many other things that were not written down. He was selective on what to write, because he wrote the gospel with one purpose and one purpose only. We read about that not long ago. Do you remember what the purpose of this gospel was?
John 20:31: But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
